Taking the Packers here +4 1/2 vs the Vikings tonight.

Lots of drama and everyone is on the over 46 so it should be a shoot out.

Don’t expect old number 4 to “bring it”.

I think the game will be a bore, but I’ll watch anyway.

Southern Mississippi had Kansas beat last week but failed to finish the job and get the win.

Tonight they face the 1-3 UAB Blazers a team they have never lost to.

Southern Miss

Southern Mississippi is playing in a conference that has improved and needs this win.  They will not let up after losing to Kansas last weekend.  In fact, look for a statement tonight against a rival that has never beat them.   They will need a positive game to ready them for the rest of the year.   Southern Miss fans will hope RB Damien Fletcher gets on the field tonight, but I’m not sure he will be needed.

UAB has some injuries and present themselves as weak on both sides of the field.  QB Joe Webb really needs to bring his “A” game for the Blazers to have a shot at winning this game, but don’t get your hopes up to high UAB fans.

The line is set high at -9 1/2 Southern Miss, but I’ll take it with that kind of history.

couchsadLets start off by saying everyone and I mean everyone was on Dallas and the under Monday night except me…ugh.

I really thought Fox was a good coach and Carolina now 0-3 needed a few games to get rolling again.

I was wrong.

Hell I even wrote the answers to the game down in my previous article.  Two good defenses and Dallas will win the game…should also mean the under, but the contrarian in me went the other way again…lol.

I feel bad for my friends who love the Panthers, but I don’t see a “happy ending” this year.  In fact, I would bet against a 8-8 record this season.

Time to rebuild?  They brought everyone back from the year before (12-4 record) and paid Peppers a ton to stay put, so yes, i think its time.

My head is just above water at 58.8% betting the tough NFL.   NCAA Football has been a little better with 77% coming in for me.

Anyway, the year is young so follow along and let’s make some money together!  🙂

Steve Smith

Steve Smith

Carolina crawls into Dallas tonight to take on Tony Romo and company  for a Monday Night Football showdown.

Even though its early in the season the Panthers are struggling and they need a win against Dallas tonight.   Carolina is rapidly matching its total losses last season in just a few short games.

Smith can still deliver the goods, but Delhomme can’t manage to get the ball to him without sending it to the other team.  Julius Pepper and the rest of the defense need to step up in a big way to have shot at winning.    To bad the Panthers are facing a team that really has its number over the last decade.

Dallas couldn’t get its feel good win last week after Lawrence Tyne crushed the hopes of “Americas Team” by hitting a game winning field goal to put The Giants on top 33-31.

The good news for Dallas fans.  The Cowboys almost never lose to the Panthers and should get another win tonight.

Both teams have excellent run games and decent defenses, but both teams are not getting it done in the air.  Look for an aggressive game tonight from both teams.

Highlight Game

Chiefs +7 1/2 vs Eagles -7 1/2

Eagles fans must face the music; playing at home is no longer an advantage.  The birds were decimated last week by the New Orleans Saints in Philadelphia.  Maybe its time to tear up the pretty grass and reinstall the deadly tarp from the Vet so Philly can get its mojo back.

Instead, Reid and company opted for the wild cat.  With injuries plaguing the Birds and Kevin Kolb running the show don’t get your expectations to high.

It will be awhile before Kansas City gets its winning ways back, but that should be ok for the Chief’s faithful.  KC has not won many games since 2003 when they got into the playoffs and lost to the Colts 38-31.

The team is in transition giving up its best player TE Tony Gonzalez while adding some old school LB’ers, QB Matt Cassel and some nice young talent.  Once they drop the dead weight and come together as a team they will start winning again.

I am interested in seeing how the Philadelphia Eagles rebound after a tough loss at home and how well Matt Cassel plays Sunday.    It’s not the best game of the week, but I find it the most interesting.

Eagles will run wild and should get an easy win even without Westbrook.  I’ll reach at -7 1/2 trying not to disturb the ghost of Hank Stram past.

More Picks

Chicago – 2 1/2 vs Seattle +2 1/2

Seattle +2 1/2

No doubt, Seattle gave up mad yards last week, but I still feel they can outscore Chicago at home.

Green Bay -6 1/2 vs Saint Louis +6 1/2

Green Bay -6 1/2

Green Bay needs to bounce back and have a big game against a lousy team, here’s the Rams and they get it done.

Big 12 Missouri Tigers are set to take on WAC’s Nevada Wolf Pack tonight in Nevada.

The Tigers come into tonight’s game undefeated and they need a win to stay ahead of a tough upcoming schedule.

Nevada under 27 1/2

0-2 for a reason, it looks like a program in reverse.  They should play better at home, but they do not get a win or more then 27 1/2 points with QB Kaeper giving up the goods.

Missouri -7

QB Gabbert is a stud even though they haven’t played anyone yet.   Missouri gets it done.

The Colts march into Miami for a Monday Night Football showdown giving 3 1/2  points to Fins.

The Colts

The Colts had a decent offensive performance last week seeing Payton Manning post 301 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT respectively.  Unfortunately, the victory over Jacksonville came at a cost losing WR Anthony Gonzalez to an injury.

The Colts made a good pick up adding WR Hank Baskett from Philadelphia to help Manning out.  The colts need another solid defensive outing Monday night and an improved run game to control tonight’s game.

The Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins also had issues scoring and getting positive offensive results in last weeks lost to the Atlanta Falcons.   Pennington and company looked better in the preseason then on Sunday and need to improve to get a win.

Pennington passed for 176 yards 1 TD and 1 Int vs the Falcons and needs a better performance tonight.  Making matters worse (most likely due to a better Atlanta D) the Fins had no run game last week.  Miami can notch a win tonight as long as they get positive yards in the air and on the ground.  They also need to keep Manning off his game by attacking the Colts O line.

Miami +3.5

Miami uses the grass to slow down the Colts and cover by 3.5.

Oakland+2 vs Kansas City -2

Pick Over 40

2 teams that resemble each other ill go with both of them to score 40 points.

Houston +7 vs Tennessee -7

Pick Houston +7

Houston stunk it up last week, but look for Andre Johnson to get back in the game or my fantasy team is toast!

New England -3 vs New York +3

Pick New England -3

New York Jets have a nice young team and a defensive minded coach, but it won’t be enough for a win even without Wes in the game.

Cincinnati +8.5 vs Green Bay -8.5

Pick Over 41

I don’t think Cincy will score that much, but I think the Pac will.

Detroit +10 vs Minnesota -10

Pick Detroit +10

My first “reach” with the dreadful Detroit Lions playing at home.  Usually these 2 teams play it close so go with the home team and the points.

New Orleans -2.5 vs Philadelphia +2.5

Pick New Orleans -2.5

Rough game here and usually i would not bet it, but if i were to pick a winner it would be New Orleans -2.5.

Carolina +6 vs Atlanta -6

Pick Atlanta -6

To many weapons to pass on Atlanta at home.

St. Louis +10 vs Washington -10

Pick St. Louis +10

Rams suck and the Redskins are so-so, but any team getting 10 points is worth a small bet.

Arizona +3 vs Jacksonville -3

Pick Jacksonville -3

Man this is tough, so I will go with coaching and take Jacksonville getting it done -3.

The Boise State Broncos march into Bulldog stadium tonight to face a pesky Fresno State team.

Boise State

Boise State is about to start a tough stretch of road games and will have to prove they are worthy of this years praise.

The Broncos are coming off a dominating victory over Miami of Ohio last week posting a 48-0 score.   The week previous saw the Broncos upset the Oregon Ducks 19-8 at Bronco Stadium.

QB Kellen Moore has been extremely efficient passing for over 500 yards and only slinging 1 INT this year.  RB D.J. Harper has run well averaging 5.5 yards per game and WR Austin Pettis and WR Titus Young have both caught 2 TD’s.  The defense has played well holding opposing teams to only 8 points in two games.

Boise will need to play Bronco football and keep mistakes to a minimum to win.

Fresno State

Coach Pat Hill has his work cut out for him after losing a heart breaker against Wisconsin in double OT last weekend.   The Bulldogs need to put the past behind them and be ready for the Broncos Friday night.

RB Ryan Mathews has rushed for over 100 yards in each of the Bulldogs games and will be called upon to do the same against the Broncos tonight.  Ryan Colburn is a decent WAC QB who can send the ball down the field, but will need his “A” game to have any chance of a win.  Colburn must cut down on mental mistakes and keep the ball out of Boise State’s hands.

If Fresno State has a chance of winning this game they will need to control the clock, get some turnovers and run the ball effectively.

Fresno State can score, but Boise State has a stronger immune system then Wisconsin.

Boise State -7

The 2009 NFL season got off to a great start on Thursday seeing the Pittsburgh Steelers get an overtime win againt the Tennessee Titans in Pittsburgh.

Lets take a look at week one’s top NFL games.

Cowboys vs Buccaneers

Will the Cowboys put the TMZness of “America’s Team” past in the trash and start playing football again?  No one except Romo and crew knows for sure, but one thing is for certain the Cowboys are rock solid during the first half of the season.  Romo is a capable QB that has all the tools to win, but who does he throw the ball to?  Jessica TO has moved on to colder pastures leaving a huge wide receiver hole in Dallas.

Roy Williams, Sam Hurd and Pat Clayton are called upon to make receptions, but one will need to step up and be Romo’s go-to-guy after Jason Witten.  Luckly “the boys” still have a punishing runner in Marion Barber and a top defense that needs to show up during the second half of the season.

On the other side of the field you have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  The Bucs are missing some key personel including long term coach Joe Gruden along with long term defensive player Derrick Brooks.  The reason Gruden is gone is because the Bucs also are missing winning football games that saw a terrible melt down last year.

The Bucs offense will be lead by QB Byron Leftwich after the front office also parted ways with QB Jeff Garcia.  Leftwich still posses a strong arm and has help with a good offensive line and an excellent run game.  Overall, this years Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in transition with a young coach in Morris and younger players on both sides of the field.

Dallas -6

Eagles vs Panthers

Doubts in the minds of Philadelphians are growing each and everyday going into Sundays game vs Carolina.  The team works out offensive lineman Jon Runyan after passing on him means the offensive line has big questions.  To make matters worst, Brain Westbrook may not be ready to carry the team on his back and the defense has major questions marks that need to be answered.

Can D-Mac get his game on without all the offseason toys on the field?  If the recievers can get open and D-Mac can stay off the ground they have a shot.

The Carolina Panthers are somewhat of an enigma going into this game due to pre season injuries and a 0-4 preseason record.  The Panthers and Eagles are both horrible teams on opening day which puts this game on some even ground.

Carolina still has a talented run game utilizing both DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart to get the tough yards.   The receivers are led by the talented Steve Smith and gun slinger Jake Delhomme still gets them the pigskin.  Delhomme needs to stop making mental errors and play a clean game Sunday to have a shot.

Under 43 1/2

Chicago vs Green Bay

No doubt, Chicago gets better with Jay Cutler at QB, but what about the rest of the team?  As Chicago gets older its winning ways seem to dwindle away and the team is not getting much younger.  On offense RB Matt Forte is an explosive weapon that will help Cutler in the pass game.

The big question will be at WR.  You can’t win games throwing to your TE and RB’s forever can you?  Deven Hester is not what you would call a number one receiver and depth after him is lacking in a major way.   At least you have tons of talent on the defensive side of the ball, but they are getting old and less effective each year.

If you missed the Green Bay Packers in the preseason they looked great on both sides of the ball.  Pretty much the same team is in place that crushed the Bears last year 37-7 with QB Aaron Rodgers leading the Pac again.  Green Bay does well in the beginning of the year so you would expect more of the same in 2009.  No real super stars on this team, but Green Bay has all around talent and as long as they stay healthy a tough team to beat this year.
